Around the world, our employees choose to give back by volunteering. Through the Motorola Solutions Service Corps program, employees serve as mentors, math tutors, volunteer firefighters and more.
As an example, Steve Marriott serves as a volunteer firefighter with support from Motorola Solutions. Our staff have also worked on properties in Strathewen, which were damaged by Black Saturday bushfires in 2009. Strathewen, which was hit hard in the Black Saturday fires of 2009. The team applied their skills to diverse tasks: clearing excess undergrowth and combustible material, laying mulch, fencing and even dealing with snakes! The team agreed that it was a fantastic experience to work even closer as a team, while providing support to the community of Strathewen. Malcolm Hackett, Chair of the Strathewen Community Renewal Association, summed up the community’s appreciation:
“Would you please pass on our community’s thanks to your colleagues. Just knowing that strangers still care enough to volunteer their time is an important gesture, aside from the work achieved.”
The collective 80,000 volunteer hours that Motorola Solutions employees globally contributed in 2014 makes a big impact in communities around the world. Motorola Solutions employees are currently on track to meet the 2015 corporate responsibility goal of engaging 20 per cent of the Motorola Solutions employee base in employee volunteerism and giving programs.
